MMMS Art Dept. Overview /H.Hoyt

Ø     Exploratory Art 6 Content:  This 6^th grade class is a 9 weeks course. During this section students will do projects related to the  Elements of Art, (line, color, shape, form, space, texture) in activities such as a drawing/painting name design (lettering and watercolor),  radial design (oil pastels), seasonal crafts and sculpture (model magic clay). 

Ø     Art 1/7- 8 Content:  This 7^th and 8^th Grade class is a full year course.  During this class, students will do projects exploring the Elements and Principles of Art/Design in activities such as drawing/name design (lettering, self portrait drawing, linear perspective, cartooning, pastels), seasonal crafts, sculpture, pottery (paper mache, fiber arts and clay) and artist research poster.  Students will create a sketchbook for journaling reflections and portfolio for storing completed artwork.

Ø     Art 2/ 8 Content:  This 8^th Grade class is a full year course.  During this class, students will do advanced projects exploring the Elements and Principles of Art/Design in activities such as drawing fundamentals (calligraphy lettering, graffiti t-shirt design, linear perspective, cartooning)  painting, seasonal crafts and sculpture (plaster craft masks, self portrait box, fiber arts and clay).  Students will create a sketchbook for journaling reflections and portfolio for storing art work. Students will also create a Power Point portfolio CD of the artwork they create throughout the year.
